Does CDCP Cover Your Dental Care in Cold Lake?

We accept CDCP and offer direct billing in Cold Lake. We also help you understand what your coverage may contribute, what you may still need to pay, and what to expect before treatment begins.

If you are looking for a CDCP dentist in Cold Lake

knowing that we accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan is important. But it is usually not the only question you have.

You may also want to know what services are covered, whether you will have a co-payment, whether treatment needs approval in advance, and what you could still need to pay yourself.

We help make those conversations clearer.

At Tri-Town Dental, we accept CDCP patients, offer direct billing, and welcome new patients from Cold Lake and surrounding Lakeland communities. We have been caring for Cold Lake families for decades, and our approach remains straightforward: understand what you need, explain your options, review the financial considerations, and help you decide how you want to proceed.

Using Your CDCP Coverage at Our Cold Lake Dental Office

You do not need to know exactly what treatment you need before you book with us.

You may be looking for a dental exam or cleaning. You may have a tooth that is bothering you. Or you may be returning to dental care after putting appointments off because of cost, anxiety, lack of coverage, or a busy schedule.

We start with your oral health.

Once we understand what you need, we can explain the treatment options and discuss how your CDCP coverage may apply.

What Dental Care Can CDCP Help Cover?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan can help pay for a range of eligible oral healthcare services.

Current federal coverage includes many diagnostic and preventive services, such as dental exams, X-rays, scaling and other eligible preventive care, as well as a range of restorative and other treatments. Some services can be provided within CDCP rules without preauthorization, while others require approval before treatment. Coverage can also be subject to frequency limits and other program criteria.

Rather than assuming a particular treatment is covered, we prefer to look at the care you actually need and review the relevant coverage information with you.

That gives you a clearer answer than a general list of benefits.

We Help You Understand Costs Before You Decide

We want the financial side of treatment to be as clear as reasonably possible before you proceed.

Once we know what care we are recommending, we can review the proposed treatment, available coverage information, and estimated patient portion.

That conversation may include your CDCP co-payment, services that may not be covered, differences between CDCP-established fees and our treatment fees, and whether preauthorization is required.

Estimates are useful, but they are still estimates. Federal guidance notes that the amount ultimately covered can differ from an estimate or preauthorization depending on the plan rules, fees, and coverage in effect when the treatment is provided.

We therefore avoid promising an exact CDCP payment before it has been confirmed.

What we can do is give you the clearest information available so you can make an informed decision.

Does CDCP Mean You Will Pay Nothing?

Not necessarily.

CDCP pays toward eligible services using fees established by the program. Depending on your adjusted family net income, you may also have a CDCP co-payment.

Current federal rules provide for a 0%, 40%, or 60% patient co-payment of CDCP-established fees depending on income. Even if your co-payment is 0%, you may still have an amount to pay if our fee is higher than the CDCP-established fee or if you choose care that is not covered by the plan.

That is why we do not use “CDCP accepted” to mean “everything is free.”

01 What Is CDCP Preauthorization?

Some dental services require preauthorization before they can qualify for CDCP coverage.

When preauthorization is required, information about the proposed treatment and supporting documentation may need to be submitted for review before care begins. The CDCP then determines whether the service meets its coverage criteria.

Not every preauthorization request is approved.

There is also an important distinction between our clinical recommendation and a CDCP coverage decision.

We recommend treatment based on what we believe is appropriate for your oral health. CDCP separately determines whether that treatment qualifies for coverage under its rules. Federal guidance specifically describes preauthorization as a coverage decision rather than a decision about whether the proposed treatment is clinically appropriate.

If a service requires preauthorization, we can explain the process and the next steps before treatment moves forward.

02 How Does CDCP Direct Billing Work?

We offer direct billing for CDCP.

Under the federal program, participating oral healthcare providers submit claims directly for covered services. CDCP members are not supposed to pay the entire covered cost upfront and then submit their own claim for reimbursement. Patients instead pay any applicable amount that remains their responsibility.

That means you do not need to navigate a reimbursement claim on your own.

Before your appointment, we recommend making sure your CDCP coverage is active and knowing your current co-payment level. Federal guidance also recommends asking about costs that may fall outside CDCP coverage before receiving care.

If you are unsure what information you need, call us. We can help you prepare for your visit.

03 What Happens When You Book With Us?

We keep the process practical.

01

First, we listen. Tell us what you would most like help with, whether that is a cleaning, a specific dental concern, getting back on track, or simply establishing care with a CDCP dentist in Cold Lake.

02

Then we assess your dental needs. We examine your oral health and use appropriate diagnostic information to understand what is happening.

03

We explain your options. If treatment is recommended, we talk through what needs attention, what may be able to wait, and the options available.

04

We review the coverage considerations. We can discuss the CDCP information available for the recommended care, including possible patient costs or preauthorization requirements.

05

You decide what comes next. If you have several dental needs, we can also discuss priorities and whether care can reasonably be completed in stages.

Our goal is to give you a plan you understand rather than a list of procedures you feel pressured to accept.

Returning to the Dentist After a Long Break?

You are welcome here. CDCP is helping some patients return to dental care after going without regular appointments because cost or lack of coverage made treatment difficult. If that describes you, you do not need to apologize for how long it has been.

We start with where your oral health is today.

If several concerns have developed, we can help identify what deserves attention first, what may be monitored, and what options fit your health, priorities, schedule, coverage, and budget.

Sometimes the most useful first appointment is simply getting a clearer picture of what is happening and deciding on the next step.

Frequently Asked Questions About CDCP

Do we accept CDCP?

Yes. We accept CDCP and offer direct billing at our Cold Lake dental office.

Does CDCP cover 100% of dental costs?

Not necessarily. Your co-payment depends on your adjusted family net income, and additional patient costs may apply even when your CDCP co-payment is 0%.

Does CDCP cover dental cleanings and exams?

Eligible diagnostic and preventive services can include dental exams, X-rays and scaling, subject to CDCP rules and frequency limits.

Does some dental treatment require approval first?

Yes. Certain services require approved preauthorization to qualify for CDCP coverage. Not every request is approved.

Do you need to pay the full bill and claim it back yourself?

No. CDCP does not operate as a patient reimbursement plan for covered services. Participating providers submit eligible claims directly, while you are responsible for amounts not covered by CDCP.

Can we tell you exactly what CDCP will pay before treatment?

We can help review available coverage information and estimates, but we cannot guarantee the final amount CDCP will pay. Coverage depends on the program rules and your individual circumstances.
