Bone and Gingival Grafting

Bone grafting can repair implant sites with inadequate bone structure due to previous extractions, gum disease or injuries. The bone is either obtained from bovine bone, cadaver bone or your own bone.  When we use your own bone we take it from your jaw, hip or tibia (below the knee). Bone grafts to increase the vertical height of bone in the back upper jaw are also routinely performed. In addition, special membranes may be used that dissolve under the gum and protect the bone graft and encourage bone regeneration. This is called guided bone regeneration or guided tissue regeneration.
